You see quite a few of them in central London but have to say my first thought is 'wanker'.

The S class blends in a bit more, it's not too over the top.

Reminds me of this classic bit of dialogue from 'Withnail And I':

Withnail: [seeing a road sign reading "ACCIDENT BLACK SPOT. DRIVE WITH EXTREME CARE"] Look at that, accident black spot! These aren't accidents! They're throwing themselves into the road gladly! Throwing themselves into the road to escape all this hideousness!

[shouts out of the car window at a man standing on the pavement]

Withnail: Throw yourself into the road, darling! You haven't got a chance!

You can see my point, though?

We’re all slowly being ’shaped’/conditioned to follow, sheep-like, (perhaps in some cases unconsciously) what the government and 'powers that be' deem as ‘correct’, and in the process, our choices as individuals (and ability to express ourselves as individuals) are being stifled more and more... And that extends to many areas of life, not just cars.

I abhor that level of controlling, and so will always stick two fingers up to it, and go my own route! Until the day I die, I’ll always seek to be different.

Stand up and refuse to be part of ’the system', I say!

Hehehe… I can’t stand those types. Brainless wonders with a total lack of imagination!

Even though the new Maybach is based on a Merc S600?

And? I’m not saying that’s what makes me different, daftee! It’s my outlook on life which does that.

However, one of the reasons why I chose the particular Merc I’ve got is because it ticked all the right boxes [I like the shape and style of that vintage of Mercedes] and hate the ‘boy-racer’ styled ones they make now, which I could’ve bought, but didn't!

When the manufacturers dictate what is available on the market, you do get controlled like sheep.
You don't have a lot of choice. I keep thinking about changing my E46, but there is nothing out there that I particularly like at this moment in time. So I am sticking with my 11 year old car.

As for the design, it's mainly driven by the CAD packages used to design the panels etc. to fit the "look".
Safety constraints play a part, but that is usually in the sub structure.

    Has anyone else noticed that?
Yep i dearly love the Jensen 'Interceptor' but if i had the choice between one of those & a Jensen '541R' every time
