    Default Brio 3 VS Mira

We currently have an old BRIO 3 amp and I was wondering whether a switch to a MIRA would bring a better sound? I think Brios might have a much better rep than Miras but I don't know if this was a price thing as the M is more powerful I think?

Just a thought as having a remote would be useful and I think I could actually pick up a MIRA for less than I might get from flipping the BRIO 3.

the mira is more powerful so if loud is your thing then it would probably be better but the brio is nicer sounding to me

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Cheers Grant that's pretty much what I needed to know I'll stick with the Brio.

As an aside, I have an Arcam Alpha 3 that I just rescued from the depths of a cupboard. It sounds lovely but is running EXTREMELY hot. Like you can't touch the back panel for long at all. Is this an easy fix? It is an old and sentimental friend.

If the Arcam is working without distortion (as you say) it sounds like the bias current might be too high, so would probably be best to have it checked.
It looks as if there is an adjustment pot per channel for setting this.

I love Hendrix for so many reasons. He was so much more than just a blues guitarist - he played damn well any kind of guitar he wanted. In fact I'm not sure if he even played the guitar - he played music. - Stevie Ray Vaughan

    Robert,
IME the ol' clamshell Mira MkI bests not only the Brio 3, but the Elex, Brio MkI and 2000, and the Mira 2000, Mira 3, and Brio-R, as well - all with the Planet MkI (clamshell) on the front, and Xels or Royd Sintra IIs on the end
