Without People there is no Forums. in other words a posting board is only a Tool for a poster, many posters make up a forum. It's the click on Forums that are the danger. Say you are a Flat earther into say Naim/Linn what forum are you going to choose to post? If you a Techy & Tannoy fanboy what forum are you gonna choose? etc instead of concentrating on certain products & beliefs forum posters may become more as one interacting with one another.

Probably the only reason i choose AOS is i can talk freely about vintage gear, i know there is a few members that like the same stuff & most importantly i can be naughty & cross the line i doubt i could do any of this sucessfully on another forum. The only downside to AOS for me is a shortage of Sense of Humour & some people are far too serious. A meeting full of people like that would be my worse nightmare.

Well I would say that the sense of 'community' that a forum may illicit is 90% illusion. I have only a passing interest in Tannoy's etc. but I still post on this forum. Regarding sense of humour I would say that the nature of writing posts is not an easy medium in which to convey humour as so much comedy is down to timing and inflection.

I tried this last year down London way

It never got off the ground

Had about 6 people interested who all had different ideas

I was hoping for a monthly meeting , others said every 3 months is enough

I was looking at a venus that would require a payment of £20 per hour ( this cost would need to be covered by those attending ) as my home is not big enough for a event like this.

My idea would be for each person in turn to bring his or her system along for us all to enjoy and talk about , the good the bad and the ugly , suggest way of improving / setting up ( if vinyl ) , if vinyl other could bring pre amps to swap etc

    Plenty of variation is good

    Mark:
What im trying to say because some peoples main interest maybe say Naim/Linn they are hardly going to spend time on a forum that chats about Techy/Tannoy are they. I would not because i would have zero interest. The more of a certain fan on a certain forum the more those products will be talked about hence members will stick to the forum of their choice.

People are naturally self centered: Look after No.1! Thay are hardly gonna pay for something that does not at least cover their best interest..No clubs only work if everyone is into the same thing. Do you honestly think someone into British Vintage bikes would give the time of day to Japanese super bike fanboy within a club?

I would be happy to pay a club fee to cover venue costs etc.
