IC - Any interest in starting a HIFI club in Yorkshire area?

Leeds is a 90minute drive for me so more than doable.

Count me out i have no time for other peoples views on Hi-Fi, as an hobby has been long time over for me, i use what i use i think what i hear sounds good to my ears. jobs a good un.

Yorkshire Oiks Bake Off?

Hmmm, what about Young Offenders Bring Ordio (SIC we cant spell in Yorkshire).

I'm not sure that a bake off is what is being proposed - after all, there's nothing stopping anyone from hosting one of them currently.

Bake off's would be cool. I'm sure something like that would go down a storm. Depends of what people want.

I think that when successful hi-fi clubs have been run in the past the organisers have sort of themed each meet. So, for example, they may arrange for it to take place at a dealers, or have an industry spokesman talk about a new product, or centre it on interconnects, or phonostages etc. I think it would help if people had a focus.

My earlier comment regarding Yorkshire being a big place wasn't intended as flippant either. I would be interested in such a club but it does ultimately depend on where it would take place - if local to me then obviously no issue but the further afield it is the more awkward it would be (I realise this is obvious).

Also, I suppose it would be useful to consider what people would actually want to get out of such a club - i.e. Is it just a socialise with hi-fi being very much secondary or is it primarily about the hobby with a social element attached (not sure I have explained that very well)? If it's about sharing experience then I'm not sure that the forum doesn't ready serve that roll?

Some very good points. I live in wakefield but was thinking of Huddersfield due to the fact it has several dealers in the town centre and probably one of the best vinyl shops around. Huddersfield has good links to Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and Wakefield (and many others). The train station has two very good pubs and the dealers and record shop are is within 300 yards of the train station and I'm sure these guys would be interested in helping out.

I think that's probably an hour away (by car) from me which sound doable and your logic seems sound . As you say, rope in the dealers and the record shop - sounds very promising.

I would think the most attractive thing regarding private clubs is to totally omit commercial Audio ie: No dealers or any such mainstream equipment.

It wouldn't always be that way, roping in dealers is just one facet of what could be achieved. I think an organic approach would be needed where suggestions from club members could determine how a club could be run i.e a simple meeting in a pub to discuss hifi with a few beers and a curry one week and then possibly a demo of the latest hifi kit in dealers shop for the next time around. It looks like it won't be happening. I expected more replies and interaction than this .

Yeh not much feedback. Thing is i would never fit in, anything that is out of my own ideal i would either not turn up next time around or just completely switch off

Yes, I understand. Unfortunately the reality is that the number of members who regularly post (on all the forums, not just AoS) is relatively small and some who would potentially be interested may not have seen the thread. It is difficult because there may well be people on pfm or the Wam who would be interested in such a club but either haven't seen the thread or consider it an AoS only thing and not for them.

I don't personally consider myself a member of any particular forum but reading posts it is clear that some people do think of themselves that way - that's down to the individuals though rather than being a forum issue as such.
