    Default New Lappy

The trusty old Tosh lappy we use for our fledgling business died last week so seeing as our finances are back on track once again we decided to treat ourselves to something with a bit more oomph. Casting about on various websites threw up some pretty decent deals on new laptops however neither myself nor Jo get on with Win 8, In light of this we trawled through the listings for reconditioned units on ebay and one machine in particular caught our eye so we bought it for a smidgeon over 300 quid. It is a Toshiba Portege R830 ultra portable (it has a titanium chassis so it is very light) sporting a 13.3" screen, 2nd gen Core i7 2.7ghz cpu, 8ghz of ddr3 ram, a 128gb SSD and it is a powerhouse. Switch on to desktop occurs in a little under 13 seconds which is astounding and best of all it came with Windows 7 Pro 64 installed and a years B2B warranty

This is far more than we ever expected for our budget so we are both absolutely delighted

Blimey! Sounds like a good candidate for a lightweight Linux distro. I'm currently trying Linux Mint 17 v2 in an old Vista laptop. It works very well.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I might ha v e a go at that when I get the server and it comes out of service. Don't now anything about such so I'll pick your brains. This old tosh only has USB 1.1 so it is a problem but I have another vista one that could take advantage of it. Think the tosh cost a grand back in the day
