Not buyin' it Clive - pardon the punThat's a serious arm you have there and my 'realistic want' cart. The truth is you've opened the proverbial can as that combo is crying out for an external psu and the Mike New ETP. I promise you that it's only then, once you've heard what you've got that you'll be in no doubt it's DONE, DUSTED, OVER, FINITO! (and I mean that sincerely)
Oh! and BTW - I know you dont want to mess with electricity as you put it regarding fitting an external psu. I did mine and like the MN bearing it was no big deal and I'm no modding, soldering guru. If you put a shout out for someone near London to fit either psu or ETP, I'm sure you'll receive more than a couple of good AOSers, happy to oblige for no more than an afternoon of tunes and a couple of beersI'll eat my ETP platter and psu if you are not thoroughly blown away at the end of it.
Finally, My experience with the Shibata is it is fussy about vta, azimuth etc so do take extra time and care (probs slight negative rake), as once it's right you'll be grinning like this
