I'm well aware of the story but it's utterly pretentious to use it in this context - Staines on Thames (it's Sunday name now) or Royal Leamington Spa would be just as amusing. In daily life it's Staines, Tunbridge Wells, Leamington, Wooton Basset. Show a bit of a sense of humour.

Good old England! Even the towns have aspirations to be upwardly mobile.

Southall, where I live, is 'twinned' with towns in France, Poland and Germany. I never did figure out what that's all about. Holiday junkets for bunches of councillors at our expense I expect. The 'twinned' European towns likely have no idea what this place is like, otherwise they'd be embarrassed with the association. It's a tip!

This guy's been trying to flog this piece of junk for £80 for months. Why bother? It belongs in the bin!

There's only one, so not much use. It's definitely not fifties/sixties with those terminals. I'd value a pair at a tenner, maybe.

Haha - £80 for a lousy Hunts 2uF capacitor and a Welwyn 100 Ohm linear carbon track pot. That must be a bargain! (I wouldn't pay any more than £1.)

    I didn't realise a Thorens TD147 would be worth £495.

He's open to offers. I might make a £30 bid.
