Thread: Bargains on ebay? (Part 2)

I was alerted to these over on PFM by someone who asked me what I thought they were. I don't actually know what they are but I do know they aren't what they were supposed to be which is 12in Monitor Golds (that's what he told the PFM enquirer they were, he's deliberately vague of course in the listing as these sorts of chancers so often are):

A polite message to him on ebay telling him this wasn't the case elicited an angry response, which confirmed they guy as a scam artist. Just wish there was something could be done about these idiots ... unfortunately the listing itself while misleading in its intent just about stops short of actually lying, lying over PM being much easier to get away with.

They do look like a pair recently posted by a member here, pepper-pot and cut away baskets, but I accept that they are not 'Golds'. The member described the ceramic magnet, in the last couple of days I think.

He should not be angry, especially in a legal contract context.

I suspect those are possibly from the 'Wildcats' series of professional monitors.

Asking price seems rather a lot despite the excellent cosmetic condition. For the same amount one could buy the better EMT 950 301 complete with groove cueing indicator.

Yeah I don't know the machines or prices just thought I'd show it.

Seller has a shop so he would take less outwith eBay no doubt, I bet you could haggle it down to a fair price. One of his other BBC decks eventually sold for 100's less than his original asking

Would anybody seriously pay £40 for a single used cassette tape?

Not a bargain and not on eBay but for anyone who has a spare 12 grand to blow.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
