Well it's been awhile since my last contribution. I've been busy I guess, though if I'm honest I'm still processing the passing of my father and the absence of our daily phone calls, we were 185 miles apart and getting together was far too infrequent !

So I'm starting the day with an old favourite and the opening track has come back to prominence recently due to the artist performing it at the Oscars and perhaps also the recent BBC Radio 2 Maida Vale performance by Paloma Faith.

This debut album from 1988 has political / social songs as relevant now as they were then.

    1. "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution" 2:40
    2. "Fast Car" 4:57
    3. "Across the Lines" 3:25
    4. "Behind the Wall" 1:50
    5. "Baby Can I Hold You" 3:14
    6. "Mountains o' Things" 4:39
    7. "She's Got Her Ticket" 3:57
    8. "Why?" 2:06
    9. "For My Lover" 3:12
    10. "If Not Now…" 3:01
    11. "For You" 3:10

Next up a somewhat overlooked third album from this group who have a enduring legacy of great music.

Released in 1980 this album featured only three of the original members with Marks brother David leaving the band during the recording of this album, none of his parts all ready recorded were used with Mark rerecording them playing them himself !

1 Tunnel Of Love / Intro: The Carousel Waltz Composed By - Richard Rodgers And Oscar Hammerstein II 8:11

    2 Romeo And Juliet 6:02

    3 Skateaway 6:40

    4 Expresso Love 5:12

    5 Hand In Hand 4:49

    6 Solid Rock 3:27

    7 Les Boys 4:09

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
