DIY is fine and dandy, but just try selling it on!

From reading the description, Pioneer appear to have put a lot of thought into it, the sort of improvements Technics might well have introduced themselves if they were still building theirs

Superficially, it looks identical to an SL-1210, but is it the same (as good) 'under the hood'? I'd need to see some evidence of that.

I sincerely hope it is, because if Pioneer have simply bought the design from National Panasonic, and are putting it into production again, then that's great news for all fans of quality direct-drive turntables.

    How much does it cost?

Interesting.... We need someone to listen to one, or at the very least, pop the platter off and have a looksee underneath!

Well, if you read through the rather poorly laid out website Nathan linked to there is some confidence inspiring blurb which demonstrates that Pioneer are not messing about here. Not sure whether it is a highly modified OEM Techie copy of which there are many doing the rounds just now, but I have a sneaky suspicion it is all Pioneers own work...

Knowing Pioneer products, they are not likely to want their product to be an 'also ran'. I reckon it will be a quality turntable. I see the asking price is £600.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I hope it is a newly designed turntable from Pioneer as they do have a history of some fine turntables, I wish they would produce a P3a exclusive again I would buy one !
But there are a lot of SL1200 knock off out there now like the Hanpin Super OEM clones which look identical on the surface but dont match up to the SL1200 build quality under the bonnet. I just hope Pioneer aren’t getting them made cheaply somewhere just to cash in on the Vinyl resurgence
