Album Club - Week 154: 16/07/2014: The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen (1993)
With thanks to John (vouk) - here is this week's selection for your delectation. Enjoy!
The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen (1993)
My selection comes from one of my favourite bands of the late 80's and early 90's, and one of the relatively better known"members" of the grunge music scene at the time, the Afghan Whigs. They originally hail from Cincinnati, Ohio and were formed in 1986, with Greg Dulli (vocals/guitar), Rick McCollum (guitar), John Curley (bass) and Steve Earle (drums) forming the main and original line up. Gentlemen, recorded in 1993 (Electra records) was their 4th and, according to many, their breakthrough album. The best known songs are probably Gentlemen and Debonair, though my own personal favourite would be My Curse, featuring Marcy Mays of Scrawl (a fellow Cincinnati based alt rock band).
