    So we've got silver wire in our tonearms. We've got 99.999% pure silver wire in our cables that run from the arm base to our SUT's or phonostages.
    Those who have not sampled the delights of low output MC carts and Step Up Transformers need not read further (unless you are curious / want to spend loads of dosh on said MC carts and SUT's ).

    Today I've been messing with cables from my SUT's (Lundahl 1:13 jobbies that are point to point silver wired)...

    I been using my favourite OFC copper RCA cables but thought I'd try 99.999% pure silver twisted / shielded as the RCA's from SUT to Phonostage.

    Ok as scientific as I get: A SUT increases the voltage output from the cartridge seen by the phonostage (in my case 1:13). I also have 1:26 available but do not need it with my current phonostage and preamp arrangement.
    It does this according to the laws of physics. W = V x A (that's power = Volts x amps). There's no gain stage involved so to increase the voltage the amperage is decreased proportionately to maintain the equation. So the actual power (minus some miniscule losses in the SUT) is the same.

    So, if silver is great for the diddy voltage levels and power levels in arms and tonearm cables, why not use it from the SUT to the phonostage as well?

    That's what I've done this evening. I made a 99.999% pure silver interconnect using 0.3mm silver and a braided / foil shielding to run from my SUT to phonostage.

    No hum problems to be heard. The jury is out as I've not listened enough yet - I'll let you know what I think after more listening but what do you other MC / SUT guys do? Are you already using pure silver RCA's / interconnects?

    In an analogue set-up, I find that silver all the way is best. I use Yannis Tome 223.5 Connect Litz interconnects (all solid-silver cables with silver Eichmann Bullet Plugs) to great effect, either with my Ortofon SUT or Paul Hynes MC head amp.     His superb 423.5 Sliver Litz tonearm cable (also fitted with the same Eichmann plugs and Furutech DIN plug) sends the signal from the T/T to my SUT or head amp. It is unquestionably the best tonearm cable I've heard - and by some margin...

    Silver does convey detail and balance beautifully doesn't it - That's what I am hearing now!

    I'm using Yannis pure silver interconnects throughout my system, Steve. The delicacy and detail at the SUT to phono stage interface is very well preserved with silver, although I have always found that silver requires a little more burn-in than copper. Give them a little more time.

    Yes, that's the logical starting point... Pity such things are often insanely priced, especially when the letters 'AN' enter the equation!

    Having heard its junior brother, the Silvercore MC, and been very impressed by it, I reckon that the top model would be rather special. It's beautifully made and offers fully-balanced operation, too!

    I do have the SPU Silver Meister but I am leaning towards the Royal N since getting the FR64s headshell...

    Silver Lundahls have been in the offing - I even made enquiries to Norrtälje a while back

    Silver Lundahls or the Silvercore transformers would both be good. Might also be worth checking the Slagle (Intact Audio) alternative too.
