Default Magna Audio News & Product Updates

I have created a modest website that demonstrates what I offer.

    There are 3 main categories:

Tannoy GRF-R style cabinets (other types also possible)
Several pink fishers, wammers and AoS members have my GRF-R cabs.

Tonearm boards - Bespoke ebony a speciality. These have proved very popular for Technics SL-1200 series of decks as well as other shapes and sizes.
Famous from the Analogue Art sticky thread

Counterweights and arm fittings (Brass and Copper tungsten)
Famous from the Analogue Art sticky thread

Please take a look at my website for more info.

I am also happy to discuss other projects. This could be from the small to the very large, e.g. special cable requirement to bespoke horn speakers systems.

I'll be updating the website from time to time as new products and services come on-line, so please keep a lookout.

    Default Latest news

Also added a tapped horns to the line up and for anyone interested (mad enough / serious enough about the whole range of frequencies that are out there), as well as a horn system building service.

    - Tapped horn sub bass solutions. Get down to a real 20Hz +/- 0dB with birch ply 15" LF driver tapped horns. 12" LF driver version also possible.
    Advice and setup also available.

    - Bespoke horn speaker systems. A service of sourcing drivers, build, commissioning and installation of multi-way horn speaker systems is offered.

Custom tonearm board in Australian hardwood and new metal lathe

Here is a work in progress board for SL-1210 but this one is in customer supplied Australian hardwood.
Pretty heavy/dense and close grained. Should polish up well.

    Mid cut

    Faced off

    Dished to suit Jelco

Taken on my phone so pretty poor quality.

There's a slight fissure in one part but that will be taken care of by the moon shaped platter cutout

I'll take some proper pics on deck when finished.

BTW, I've bought myself a new (secondhand nearly new) Warco precision super mini metal lathe - picking it up tomorrow. Counterweights & pulleys etc will be much easier to make with this baby.

    To be continued...

Update to the Australian hardwood board that was in progress above.
This one is for Bernie / AoS Canetoad.

On my new lathe whilst polishing

Oh yeah, this lathe spins up to 2500rpm and that really gets a shine on!

On test mule deck (bit scabbly but it never leaves the workshop). Bolts shown are my own test ones - cap headed Stainless will probably be bolts of choice.

Jelco arm hole and mounting holes drilled.

Armboard ready for shipping once it has final waxing / polish.

Here's a project of Tonearm board / arm rewire and fettle I've just done.

Replacing a thin piece of aluminium on a Cranfield Rock deck with a more substantial ebony armboard.
I also rewired the Alphason HR100s arm with Litz silver tonearm wire, fitted a Cardas 5 pin plug (to enable future cable upgrades), and fitted a new tonearm cable he'd bought - all providing quite an upgrade I trust.

All mounted up on 6mm thick ebony.

(I decided a block looked a bit boring so put the bevelled edge on to spice it up a bit)

(I'd run out of M5 black domed or caphead bolts to the ones shown are just for test mounting)

Here's the old somewhat abused plate that the ebony replaced.

    The arm re-wire
1st to drill the arm base and tapp it to receive the Cardas 5 pin tonearm cable plug.

    Silver Litz wire fitted

    Cardas plug located

Buzz tested and colour coded, ready to go.

I also had to re-thread the bias weight micro fishing line too

Be interesting to hear what difference all these changes make.
