Thumbs up Norton Airpower DIY - help!

    Hi everyone,

I am contemplating making one of these to power my Heybrook TT2

    http://lnantispam.wix.com/norton-tec...airpower/c17k4

but due to being quite thick, I am wondering if someone could clarify the ratings necessary for each transformers.

I am looking at farnell Uk and I could go with a few options, so I need to be 100% sure what I am looking for.

Many Thanks in advance to all of you

yes, but (excuse my ignorance) is this value:

    - the VA rating or
    - the secondary windings output?

Hi Francois, the 60 and 80V are the secondary voltages. The VA rating required (used in the kit) is 30VA for each trannie.

Cheers Alan, always on the money!!!

    So if I get a 2 x 30V - 30VA and a 2 x 40V - 30VA, I should be OK?

    You only need 30VA total for each of the 60 & 80V so you could buy 2x 15VA 30V and 2x 15VA 40V.

You will probably find trannies larger than 15VA are cheaper as it is more difficult to wind smaller toroid trannies.
I don`t suppose you are stuck for space though.

sorry but now I am a bit confused…

where does the values of 60v and 80v come from then on the schematic if I only have secondaries rated at 15V?

are you saying that I only need to output 30v out of each transformer? Surely that goes against the idea that 2 different voltages make the shift in phase in the motor?

Sorry again for being thick, but Transformer have a tendency to confuse the hell out of me!

    Nice work Simon!

But that's basically twice as much as I can spend on a PSU… and that deprives me from the fun of building it as well…

I would rather learn something and have a project to do over the next few weeks.

    Thanks though for the offer

I`m taking of the power rating when I said 15VA.
The voltages still need to be 60 and 80 volts.

Keep asking questions and I`ll explain each one
