“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

Nice one, Ali. I thought you were a lost sheep and destined to forever be a digital fanboy!!

Enjoy yer 401. It's a fine T/T (with oodles of 'tweakability', as you no doubt know already). Hope it hits the spot and gives you many hours of listening pleasure

The 401 is a fabulous turntable and built to last so good luck.
I am presently using one and a Michel Gyro Deck, I want the Gyro deck to be better but it just does not have that bass energy and pace that you get from the 401

Nice setup. The 301 and the 401 will never beat a well setup 1210 with regards to Bass slam and response. I too have a very nice 301 but it dosen't seem to match the 1210 with regards to Bass.

Was that comparison made with the decks configured as per the equipment list in your signature?

The answer would be yes, but I havent played around with putting the ortofon cadenza black on the 301 and the 301 only ever gets played through the Tannoy's. I think your probably going to say that the 301 should be just as good in the bass area. I would not disgree with you either. The 301 is still a WIP, I would like a better bearing and a decent platter mat which I suppose could improve things. TBH I only use the 301 for Jazz, classical, vocal, folk etc. The 1210 is used for Metal and Prog.
