Sorry digital fiends, just not getting it. Why is DCS gear silly money? I have heard some great equipment at a fraction of the price just as good. Are they perhaps a status symbol?

It's the usual bling thing I reckon.
“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

Real high end sound with musicality not hifi
Yes, I'd be keen to find out what people regard as equivalent, but yet is much cheaper.

I have listened to a colleagues DCS player on many occasions and have to say that it is excellent. However, i have also listened to my sons Arcam CD player that whilst in comparison to the DCS is a little Fisher price in build quality though it did use the DCS ring DAC. And Virkon's Advantage CDP sounds pretty damn good too at half the price of the DCS player.

I'm gone.
It's the looks I can't stand with current and recent DCS gear - it looks like the plastic crap you'd buy from Dixons for £19.99 to me!
.... maybe I need to visit the opticians for a new pair of glasses.
