Always had nice results with a Quad 44/405 set paired with Monitor Audio R852's....about right for 1989 I think?

Cheers Paul... I'm actually on the cusp of purchasing a pair of Monitor Audio R352's, but I'm desperately trying to hold off until I plump for an amplifier. The R852's are a good suggestion, so off to see what I can find. I have a feeling that the Quad 44/405 might be above my budget... but you never know...

Incidenatlly, does anybody have a .pdf of a hi-fi magazine from 1989 or 1990? I'd love to see what was on the market back then...

    Cheers
    Pete

I've managed to snap up a Quad 305 power amplifier and 34 control unit so am just now looking for some vintage speakers to finish off this second room system...

Maybe consider an Audiolab 8000a or 8000c / 8000p both of the same vintage... otherwise maybe an Exposure X integrated...

Not sure on speakers but know that the Epos ES11 are good and from the same timeframe... or Neat Petite (although they have to be carefully positioned) if my memory serves me correctly

Thanks Paul... any other members suggestions for speakers that aren't going to break the bank would be very much appreciated...

Ruark Talisman Mk. 1. Had a pair driven by a Quad 34/606 and liked the sound. Also had a the Meridian 206/263 units at the same time.

Pretty much anything from SD Acoustics would be worth keeping an eye out for... SD3's & SD3R's do come up for under £100 every now & then...

Top stuff chaps... my Quad 305 power amplifier and 34 control unit has safely arrived and I'm currently running it with my second Meridian 206 player bi-wired to a pair of small Ruark Epilogues... sounds very nice indeed and can't wait to find something bigger to drive

How about a very clean pair of Mordaunt Short MS 500 Gold speakers with stands £50 collected, these don't come up for sale very often.
