Default Orbscure's search for audio nirvana

Imagine it 1989 chaps and you've just purchase a Meridian 206 CD player... other than the matching it with existing Meridian kit of the day, if you were looking to connect this player with other manufactures high end and similarly priced amp/pre-amp and stand mount speakers of the day, what would you have using or chosen? Reason I ask is that I have a spare Meridian 206 player and would like to use this as the basis to build a second redium sized room system using the kit of the day - which in theory - should be relatively cheap and easy to source today...

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers
    Pete

OK... lets try a different tack... what would you recommend as good cost effective partners for the 206?

Any and I mean any, Theta DAC. The dearer the better, but all of them give great results with the 206.

I probably would have paired it with Naim 42/110 or 72/140 & Royd Edens... Not now though

Thanks for the suggestions chaps... is there anything from back in the day that you would be happy to use now?

You have a huge problem here in that Meridian just couldn't stop tinkering with their products, altering the sonic 'feel' almost with every batch - the rep used to advise replacing demo stock every visit because of the internal tweaks and changes. The 500 series was the same, an early 506 sounding very different in comparison to a later sample (Linn did the same in the 90's with the Karik and Numerik). Used as a transport while the mech is still working wouldn't be a bad idea possibly though.

From back then. To go with the 206. What about a Lentek integrated amp and a pair of Sonus Faber Electas.
