No. I don't Marco. I used to build and tune my own engines, along with all the associated fuelling and exhaust mods. All my tech books are long gone. But I've not forgotten the principles.

No worries. It defo makes sense doing it that way. He's essentially been told to max-out the car's engine performance/BHP, as far as is possible, so it'll be interesting what that achieves (with the remap and new exhaust system) compared with how things are now with the Brabus D6 tuning chip

The old exhaust system was overall of a smaller diameter, had narrower tips, and he also mentioned something about there being dual-catalytic converters installed (instead of a DPF), so he's going to do something to take away/minimise that restriction (thus reducing turbo lag, etc), whilst keeping things within compliance.

I'm expecting the end result to be noticeably better, and if it is, the sale of the tuning box and existing exhaust system will pretty much pay for the work that's being done! I like win-wins

Any changes to exhaust systems has an impact on the engine's behaviour, so the remap will be better set up for the car if done after.

Absolutely! Not entirely relevant, but the amount of people I've seen ditch the standard exhaust including the cats (petrol turbo cars) and not get it mapped immediately then wonder why the engine let go. A lot of standard mapped ECUs don't have wide enough parameters to cope and run lean as hell and there's only one thing going to happen in that situation

Yeah. I tended to run lean on tuned engines back in the days of carbs, to get the top end revving out well and I burned out a few exhaust valves here and there. Mind you, it only took me an hour or so to change one. Nearly every change of exhaust manifold or silencers meant a retune. A mistake people make is to want big bore exhausts, often killing the performance, due to lost gas velocity.

Very true, although back pressure on (petrol) big turbo cars isn't overly desirable.
Also seeing people fitting bigger injectors was fairly amusing when not mapped. Lots of unburnt fuel, flames, bore wash then bang.
