I don't know yet what my next car will be, but until, or if, I decide to be completely frivolous, it'll always have to mix practicality with performance. Don't mind Jags, but I prefer the 'proper' ones that they used to make, such as Steed (from The Avengers) drove!

I've seen a few bespoke 'race tuned' versions, which are rather sexy... I've also yet to have an Alfa in my life, and given my Italian heritage, that's bordering on sacrilege!

I rather like the new Giulia:

Ticks all the right boxes: Fun? <Check> Fast? <Check> Practical? <Check> Not too many on the road, as I hate driving cars every other man and his dog drives? Check!

Wow, I'd be the talk of the builders merchants! They'd be going "there goes that Steve, he's obviously doing really well, I wonder what's his secret?"

But I've lost count of the number of times I've had my tools nicked. If these went I'd probably cry.

My definition of performance cars (diesel or petrol) is quite simple. If it has been tuned for performance rather than for economy, it's a performance car. Much like hifi - if it was made with the intention to provide a faithful reproduction of music, it is hifi, regardless of how much it costs.

But as with many other things, I could be wrong!

Get 20 odd MPG from my Alfa nowadays...and wouldn’t change a bloody thing!
(except to swap up to a Giulia Quadrifoglio....in red natuarally)
