    Hi Martin,
t'was unaware Dave Brook did a linear PSU for a Server.
You'd think I'd know about it too!

    Any details on it?
    Sounds intersting.

    thanks.
    Gaz.

    Cheers Ali.

On the front page of this thread Gaz, the two matching black boxes; one is the PC the other is the linear PSU for it.

    I'm stoked that they match

Substantial upgrade to the sound, cleared up lots of fuzz I never knew was there, meaning the sound is clearer and low level detail retrieval is a lot better. More nuances and detail but also bass became a lot clearer and textured. Highly recommended.

Wondered if it was something new Martin.

Yup, Ive heard one with the Server down at Bristol, and in my own system.
    Job's a good 'un.

Aye, agreed, had a couple of Nick's supplies in the past, they do exactly as you describe. Well worth the outlay IMHO.

Yes, I very nearly bit the bullet and got one for where I currently live (rented flat) so would have had to get a plug in unit, which would mean more top notch mains cable and plugs, ideally I'd like to avoid that as much as possible. So refrained.

As soon as I've got my own place its the 1st thing that's happening! I'll be getting the hard wired, no compromise model and be using Gaz's excellent post as a guide

Next thing I'll look at is (software) room correction, see what that can do for the sound.

Guys, I get a ground hum, but only sometimes.

How do does one go about removing this please, make do you have any idea why its intermittent?

I removed the xlrs from my DAC and it vanished, so I'm assuming its from the DAC anywhere up the chain?

Its unlikely to be ground loop caused by the dac as the outputs on it are totally floating and isolated. It may be that teh amp expects them to be grounded when in fact they are not.
    Nick.
