If not, I'm still a bit chuffed as this one sounds terrific!! You can get generic stili for around £30, so I will try not to let someone destroy this one.
    You lucky lucky bastard.

Yup. Thats the beauty. Mk4 was the best but all stonking. Avoid the aftermarket stylus replacement. Get it retipped if necessary. And be careful - they are fragile a beauty Gordon

Sat down fro the first time for ages and put a record on the TT. As the Technics 205 is now installed, I expected a slight change from the Goldring Elan.

Was there?? Yes there was. One of my old faves is the Rodrigo/Bacarisse pairing by Cubedo on Contour. I just sat and got lost. The interplay between guitar and orchestra, especially woodwind, was magical and Cubedo brings out the Spanish in the music like no other guitarist seems to manage (strangely, he is Spanish!!) The 205 just lets the music through. The details are there if you want to look for them but the overall effect was just so involving that I wasn't looking.

I have the same recording on CD and good though it is, I tend to be more into the sound instead of the music. I'll take the vinyl version please Mister

    Gordon,
The nobs will tell you that moving coils this, and they that, and the other, and some of them do, but that cartridge mixes it with the best of them. Never mind it was £70 retail and moving magnet - that is the original nob of the donkey. You will note, I previously begged for one on this forum with no joy. With luck the moving coil version I have in the air from Arizona as we speak will be at least as good. But that was a stonker

i seem to recall that £70 seemed quite expensive at the time but I thought it was worth it then and I certainly think it good value for the £5 I paid for the Zero 100!! I reckon that the original was the only piece of hi-fi that I have ever bought without listening myself first and certainly one of the few bits bought new. Got lucky.

Good luck with your MC. Sadly, if I had seen your request for a 205, I would have politely refused to let it out of the house.

Colloms was totally flummoxed by the later 205 models, since they so easily out-performed his beloved Koetsu's, yet he couldn't say that directly as his income from his gear consulting, HFN reviews and the adulation he received from his Top End fanbois who followed his every utterance would have been affected.

Depends what you want from vinyl reproduction, but those working with master material seemed to admire the 205 III etc. very much I remember.

You don't like poor Martin do you? True though. I had all those cartridges listed at the time, and only wanted to use the Technics which comfortably outclassed them. Tracking at 1.25 grams!

Well, I am a little late to this EPC-U205 love in, but I can finally hear what you gents have been banging on about.
It's a shame mine cost more than the £5 Gordon paid, but what a cartridge....

Do I need my MC cartridges now? I am really not sure.

    Hi Martin!

Well, let's turn it into one.

Must admit I had a hard time getting into a Bliss-ful state, for many a year I found his music curiously uninteresting.

Now, though, I am coming round.

His string quartets, playing at the moment, are rather fine!
