    The RFC-MC1 SUT has now benefited from some internal tweaks to further enhance its already impressive performance!

    Basically, because I've been finding that customer TT set ups are extremely variable in terms of earthing arrangements (some exhibit lots of noise and some are silent in respect of earthing arrangements) I've now tied the floating signal returns from the primary and secondary windings to reduce the effects of any poor grounding from turn tables. The result? Improved dynamics through lower background noise.

    I'm also delighted to announce that I'm making available to special order my second SUT in the range intended for very low self impedance MC cartridges with very low outputs (less than 0.3mV). This will have a 26dB gain, will also be custom loaded and will also carry RFC's full 24 month warranty. Expect pricing to be around £595 for the RFC-MC2.

    Latest update from me at RFC is that I'm about to launch a new service for audio enthusiasts due to demand picking up. Recently, I've been commissioned to rebuild several sets of loudspeakers including re-working cabinets, re-damping the internals, rebuilding crossovers (and upgrading them) plus re-wiring. It seems that many people would rather invest in returning their pride and joy speakers from yesteryear to full glory rather then sell and buy something newer.

    The RFC website will be updated later in the week but for now, I am offering the following service:

    Crossover refurbishment;

    Loudspeaker Cabinet rejuvenation (woodwork finishing); internal bracing and damping work;

    Loudspeaker driver replacement and re-wiring;

    Provision and fitting of new/improved cable terminals;

    Construction of kit loudspeakers (such as the WAD designs) on provision of all components.

    I specialise in the refurbishment of Tannoy loudspeaker crossovers and cabinets and can supply crossovers for all HPD and Tannoy Monitor Gold loudspeakers.

    These works are based upon the speakers/crossovers being delivered to me.

    In addition to refurbishing existing crossovers, I also build new crossovers so if you want to run your speakers and just have new crossovers delivered for a straight swap with your existing ones, I can do that for you too.

    An example of my crossover work is given below:

    I already have customers wanting rebuilds of crossovers and complete refurbishments for Tannoys, Impulse Lali's and Roksan Darius Loudspeakers...all marques deserving of restoration and upgrading works!

    Prices are very reasonable indeed. I supply all components at cost price (which is discounted) and just charge a fixed hourly rate for labour, with a cap put on the hours estimate agreed in advance so that the final charge can be budgeted for and agreed without any nasty surprises! I have nothing to hide charge-wise.

    For a quote to refurbish your crossovers or undertake any of the works above, please drop me a PM or use the CONTACT US section of my website to leave an e:mailed message.

    The new Jolida FX-Tube DAC III has arrived!

    It shares the same chassis and circuit as the FX-II but adds to this a quality analogue volume pot and a good quality headphone circuit and socket.

    This of course means that the FX-III can be used as a preamp and will happily drive most power amps.

    RFC versions will be upgraded using Claritycap ESAs in the filters. Pricing has yet to be set, but expect the new and upgraded FX-III to retail very close to the price of a standard FX-II.

    Also, shortly to be on offer will be the Jolida Fusion single box DAC and transport (think of it as an adequate transport combined with a super DAC). It's amongst the very best DACs I've ever heard, and nothing but nothing has come close in listening trials. This too will be upgraded for RFC customers with plenty of high quality capacitors in evidence.

    Just three days to go until the first RFC mansions Bake-off!

    The first bake off is taking place this Saturday and I will be show casing the stunning Reference Fidelio loudspeakers:

    Anyone curious to learn just how good vintage Tannoy drivers can be when properly implemented is welcome to contact me via PM to arrange an audition. Whilst I won't be taking these to Whittlebury this year, I hope to be there next year with a whole raft of RFC products. Meantime, I am happy to provide auditions of these speakers to anyone looking for their "final destination" loudspeakers. Where customers like what they see and hear, home auditions can be arrange for those wishing to take the next step in ordering a pair, or you are welcome to bring your own amplifiers to me for your auditions.

    I am happy to arrange further bake offs for those wishing to bring their own kit and try RFC's range of cables, listen to the loudspeakers or just for a good day out meeting up with fellow enthusiasts!

    Hot off the press:

    RFC has just been appointed as sole UK/EU importer & Distributor for Jolida (USA) products.

    I will be updating the RFC website in due course with full details, but this is a great piece of news for the UK market as it now secure supplies of the excellent Jolida products built to full UK spec. Jolida will be offering me an upgrade service where I can specify either standard components for the market or versions containing some serious upgrades!

    Expect prices to be exceptionally competitive and quality high. More details to follow in due course.

    RFC is delighted to announce the launch of the all new Jolida Fusion 3502 integrated amplifier. This is an exceptionally high quality amp, which uses much improved casework and a ground-up new circuit to deliver possibly the best sound quality they've managed to date from any of their integrated range:

    The amp outputs 50 wpc Push-Pull using EL34's or can run 6550s and KT120s or KT150s at 60wpc. It retains the Eazy-Bias system of its predecessors enabling and indeed encouraging valve rolling! There's a switch at the rear of the amp which is toggled between the use of EL34s or the other valve types so set up couldn't be easier.

    In an exciting development, Jolida have agreed to upgrade their range of amps to RFC specifications so that all amps imported into the UK come with optional upgrade packages including higher quality internal wiring (even though in standard trim, quality is impressive enough!), high quality caps in the signal path, high quality resistors and special attention to creating an ultra-low noise floor for improved detail and dynamics.

    This is likely to be their best selling yet amp for the UK market and its one that I have selected for RFC as being possibly the best match both visually and sound quality-wise for the UK market. It really is a stunner.

    I will be taking delivery of my first system demo version in a few weeks that can be heard here by appointment.

    Price will be sub £2K, exact details on pricing to follow, but expect so-called high-end quality and sound for a fraction of high-end pricing! It's a real world amp which promises to knock a hell of a lot of Far East imports off the value-for-pound perch whilst retaining far superior design and build quality.

    I will also be taking delivery of the all new FX-Tube DAC MKIII and MKIII Bluetooth (wireless version) in the near future. A unique feature of these is that they dispense with any op-amps in the circuit as Jolida believe that these give rise to "nasties" in sound quality especially at higher frequencies, instead they prefer to run the signal straight to a valve buffer so sound quality can be tweaked to personal preference simply by tube-rolling. Prices yet to be announced but I will probably fix the new FX-III for the same price as the FX-II at least for the first 50 units ordered. (RRP = £545)

    Price: £2,250 This is slightly higher than I wanted to set the cost, but the import duties and final production costs amounted to £250 more than expected. Still a bargain at the price!

    2. RFC specified JD3520

    This is the result of in depth discussions between myself and Jolida Corp and I have specified some serious upgrades to elevate the standard 3502 (already a fabulous amplifier in its own right) to offer unparalleled performance at the price. Special attention has been paid to minimising measured distortion to vanishingly low levels through the all important mid range, to blocking RFI from the inputs so lowering noise floor and for including only the highest quality internal components being used.

    The upgraded amplifier design includes fine tuning following listening tests once construction is complete to fine tune for optimal performance into a wide range of loudspeakers.

    Every amplifier is inspected on arrival amplifier both externally and internally and tested prior to dispatch. A strictly limited production run of 50 of these very special amplifiers are being specified by RFC for the UK!

    Upgrades include:

    o High purity teflon coated OFC for all internal wiring;
    o Top of the range Cardas Rhodium over Silver plate input jacks fully screened against RFI
    o upgraded output transformers wound to the same high specification with a German grain orientated steel core but utilising higher purity wire for the windings
    o Top-specification Sanken Ceramic resistors and Hexfred Diodes
    o High spec Claritycap capacitors
    o targeted circuit modifications and tweaks for minimising THD resulting in a super clean midrange performance, even when the music gets busy!

    Price (Certified Ltd Edition): £2,995

    There is a choice of valves (either EL34, 6550 or KT88). Prices above are quoted based on the EL34. Please contact me for revised prices for the alternative valve choices.

    I'm pleased to announce that with immediate effect, I will be offering complete loudspeaker refurbishment services. More and more people have been contacting me to request whether it's worth them refreshing tired crossovers or improving upon cabinet design, or simply for replacing damaged drive units.

    In many cases, your old (and perhaps tired?) loudspeakers of 20 or 30 years ago may stuill be more than a match for modern equivalents, and in all honesty, in many caeses should out-perfrom many modern loudspeakers. The difference between 30 to 40 years ago and today was mainly that speakers were designed with performance in mind over profit (although that still had to figure!) and you only have to look at Celestion, Tannoy, Quad, Mission, Roksan, Impulse, Spendor, Harbeth, Rogers, Leak , Castle Acoustics nand many others just to see what talent and quality there was in British Loudspeaker production. I think that these are all examples of speakers worth the effort of bringing up to date.

    The services I offer include:

    • Crossover refurbishment
    • Bespoke Crossover design and construction
    • Speaker reconing
    • Cabinet rejuvination
    • internal damping and bracing work for cabinets where appropriate
    • External crossover conversions
    • replacing damaged drive units
    • re-wiring with high quality OFC internal wiring

    Please contact me for a guide price for your specific requirements.

    I also provide my own design for absolute top quality Tannoy HPD crossovers and for Monitor Gold crossovers. These are built to exactling standards using only the best components avaliable in the most appropriate values to achieve the flattest response. I dispense with Autoformers completely as they're not needed. Prices as follows:

    HPD - Quality crossover based on the "Fidelio" Loudspeaker crossover = £375 per pair
    HPD - Ultimate quality using Claritycap HR caps, Jantzen Air cored inductors, Mills resistors, neotec solid core OFC wiring where needed = £450 per pair

    Monitor Gold "Ultimate" Crossovers = £ask!!! Price dependant upon choice of inductors and caps but starts at £400 per pair. These I will put up against any available anywhere for quality and performance. They will most certainly better the standard crossovers which all will be rather tired by now and better many of the available after market examples, many of which I notice contain design flaws. You have to be careful to know what you're buying when it comes to Tannoy as there is so much misleading and plain wrong information on the 'net about them.

    I also offer an economy Tannoy crossover service where the existing crossovers have all capacitors replaced with tighter tolerance newer items, and all switches are cleaned. Price for an overhaul of existing crossovers is £150 per pair.
