    HI Gaz

Great write up, thanks. I have a Young & SQ PSU, and very happy I have been with it. The one DAC I have been genuinely curious about as a successor (almost enough to consider buying blind) is the Mytek. So thanks for the super relevant comparison!

I have to say I am slightly surprised, as the Mytek has pro-pedigree and is a more recent design. Having said that, I have never found the Young lacking in any way, neither has one friend who replaced a Weiss DAC2 with one. I heard SOTA Resonessence labs Concero DAC compared with the Young, and that didn't manage much either!

The next step is to pinch my mate's MDAC when he goes on holiday, and live with that (minus pre-amp) for a week.

So far, this classy little Italian number has been capable of presenting every system change I've made, from amp changes to computer mods, and as yet, I don't think I have found it's limit. It's most certainly not 'HiFi' in that dry sense, it's about passion, vivace and musical flair. In musical terms, it's the difference between a good performance and a fantastic performance on a good night.

Thanks for allaying my curiosity. (for now)
    Best regards, Alan

    Hi Alan,
agree with the musical ability of the Young and that it brings out the performance, flair..all the things that make a performance.

The Mytek sounded a bit "technically all present and accounted for" to me, not as enjoyable.
Not clinical or mechanical either, but just missing that...something.

At this level (and price!) you'd really need to hear and new Dacs in your own system.

I was surprised at the result too.
Always good to remember that the Mytek has a great feature set, but like the Mdac (for me), has features I wouldn't use.

The Young to me is the natural successor to my Rega Dac in musical involvement and philosophy, it gets out the way and makes music a bit special.
    Though they sound very different!

I'd be maybe looking to listen to the Young Vaughn as a contender...?

Gaz tried a power inspired regen unit , ruined the sound of my system & many other line filters
Flat a lifeless with it connected only badly designed equipment needs a regen unit
if the gear has a quallty PSU built-in does not need anything on the mains
Power inspired unit is just a very cheap asian double conversion unit for PCs
Efficiency of the unit is just shocking 85% has a noisy fan to cool the unit , very 1970s
my PV inverter/regen is 97% with no fans + server built in

as you have heard Gaz , all my sanders gear uses a patented linear voltage PSU , I fact roger sanders the designer warns that they are a waste of money
    some light reading
    http://sanderssoundsystems.com/techn...ers/esl-amp-wp

also ruined the sound with my Set & PP valve amps as well , but these have decent valve PSU @ 90kgs
better spend your cash on decent mains cables
Have a lessloss Firewall Filter due next week for a Client but these are real top end bit of kit

works with the mains plugged directly into the wall or supplied by the Sun for free
with my system powered by a 4kw regen unit ( my roof mounted solar system ) solar inverters convert DC/AC much better than regen units with much lower THD
