    Default The Decca 'Green' cartridge

After an enquiry made by a new member concerning the Decca ‘Green’ cartridge, the following might be of interest.

The Decca 'Green' is a monophonic cartridge ‘head’ made by Decca as part of their ffrr / ffss range (from the Mk.I to the Mk.III designs).

    (Image: vinylengine)

    Vinylengine quote the following specification:

    Output: 7.5mV

    Response 20Hz – 20kHz

    VTF: 2 – 3g

    Recommended load impedance: 50kΩ

    Coil resistance: 4.4kΩ

Spherical tip radius: 0.0006/7" (though according to a Decca leaflet, this radius is stated to be 0.0009")

Compliance: 12cu (stated to be the dynamic compliance. I believe this is the static compliance, not the dynamic compliance.)

Decca also state in their leaflet on ffss stereo heads, the following:

    Mono Microgrove Head
The stereophonic heads track perfectly well on all monophonic/microgroove records in good condition. The mono microgroove head is produced for -
    (A) those who wish to use monophonic only system, or
    (B) those who have many of the older type of microgroove records which have been worn by a pick-up of poor performance.

They also state the recommended playing weight is 3 grammes.

    Cheers - that's better!

Always remember that that is the best way to post images on the forum. It also prevents broken links developing later, which caused all that hoo-hah recently with Malware warnings being flagged up by Google
