Default Playing Flac files on PS3

I was just messing around on my son's PS3 and noticed that there's a Logitech Media Server set up on it and I can view all the songs on my NAS. When I go into an album it givs me the message that there are no files.

Doesn't a PS3 recognise Flac files or is there some other problem?

Not used a PS3, but perhaps you need to get LMS to scan your NAS to provide a library?

The library is there with albums by artist etc. Just no files in each. I did a google search and it looks like PS3s don't play flacs. Seems there is a freeware program called PS3 Media Server that can be installed and used for flac and playing divX files. I'll have to do a bit more digging.

    Just messing about.

I think they can play FLAC. Try PM'ing Ian Walker, I think he uses one.

PS3 doesn't support FLAC - There is a large demand for it with quite a few request threads on the playstation forums but Sony don't care.

I haven't tried it myself but you can transcode & stream your FLAC files to the PS3 in high bitrate MP3 on the fly with TVersity from your computer. Hardly ideal but better than having to duplicate your entire collection in another format.

PS3 is the latest 500Gb slim. Just went to music menu and Squeezeserver is available and I can play flac files from there. I just tried and it works fine.

I think it's actually running the Squeeze server app on the Synology NAS I have my music on and streaming it to the PS3. I've set it up as a media server in the house. Works a treat!

The problem yesterday was that I think it was looking for video files to play as I was trying to use it from another point in the menu.

    Thanksfor the help!
