I know where you're coming from, Ralph. Something chunkier and higher-mass would've been more in keeping with things, but those Orsonic headshells are so eminently tweakable (on all parameters), and as a result maximise the sonic performance from partnering cartridges.

They may look a little 'weedy' and skeletal, but sonically, they're the dog's bollocks!

To these eyes it just looks too hi tech for such a classic deck. I'm liking the SME sliding mount though.

I know what you are saying Ralph. I find things like that very odd. Putting a modern Headshell on a Vintage arm. Putting a Classic Motor unit in a modern plinth etc etc...

Indeed. I have one here to evaluate. It's beautifully made, with a much more robust and solid azimuth adjustment system than I've seen before that also gives some fore/aft overhang adjustment. Its main party trick seems to be the pivoting plate to which the cartridge is bolted, so SRA can be adjusted without raising or lowering the arm pillar and thereby altering VTF. It's quite heavy at 18g, so definitely good for lowish compliance cartridges like the Miyajimas.

Excepting its highish mass, the Arche headshell is as 'universal' as you're going to get, but it's fantastically expensive, and that's its main problem.

It works well with Koetsus, IO's etc, it certainly is a heavy headshell and can stretch some vintage arms balance capabilities. It is possible to note settings for different carts / arms too. To these leathery ears the Arche makes a notable difference. The build quality of the headshell is the finest I've personally owned.

Here's a couple of pics of my new turntable, built out of an old Lenco GL75 idler motor unit by my son.
He replinthed it in a heavy layered MDF structure, then oak veneered it all.

I have just fitted a brand new Shure M97eX cart to it.

The arm is a Rega RB250 but that is going soon, to be replaced by a Mayware Formula IV
a friend has offered for a small fee.
It sounds great and has taken me right back to when I actually enjoyed vinyl; a time before I got suckered in by the flat earth bullshit and came to despise the medium with a vengeance.
It's years since I had anything analogue in my system and TBH, I'm well pleased with the results.

Uploaded and enlarged the pics for you, James:

Nice table! And you're one of the few people I've seen using the 12-inch version of my own tonearm (Ortofon RS-212D). It's a superb arm... Plus, is that an EMT JSD5 cartridge I spy there, too?
