    Preamps: Heavily-modified Croft Charisma-X. LDR Stereo Coffee. Power Amps: Tube Distinctions Copper Amp fitted with Tungsol KT-150s. Quad 306.

    Cables & Sundries: Mark Grant HDX1 interconnects and digital coaxial cable, plus Mark Grant 6mm UP-LCOFC Van Damme speaker cable. MCRU 'Ultimate' mains leads. Lehmann clone headphone amp with vintage Koss PRO-4AAA headphones.

    hi ian i have the r1 das-r1 if you dont mind do the mods make a good improvement to the dac and what sort of costs ,i dont make much use of my player,i had the valve engineer paul hynes look at it a few years ago but said that there were many improvements needed -he did not rate it ,i would be interested if you found changes

    I bought mine already modded so couldnt comment on the standard dac,i think Marco bought his as standard though so he would be the one to ask.

    Regulation and I/V stage design is just a couple of the things which tended to let a lot of the TDA1541 based dacs down

    If Sony used classic op-amp I/V implementation and this was upgraded to something say without fb, regulation upgraded to lower noise and those tired old capacitors replaced it probably would improve performance no end

    we are very lucky here in n. ireland to have a very fine hifi engineer i did get the circuit diagrams for the transport and the dac as my transport had to be fixed by him after a unsuccesful modification ,but any advice on the player is great im not in any rush and i can let him read all the recomendations and thank you very much

    Francis means Rodney Hanna. I have heard Francis Dac and it was quite good. Audio Com who do mods for these things are the best in the UK at it and would do a great job on it. I didn't know you had the transport fixed Francis, maybe I could get a listen to both sometime. Nice to see you back on line again.
