Lol... Nah, mayo is fine, in my book, as long as it's good quality, such as the Polish stuff Geoff's talking about, or preferably home-made. Now salad cream (a uniquely British invention), that's a different matter altogether!
I'm with you though on the roll and square sausage with broon sauce!
However, for something healthier I'm rather partial to some lovely thick farmhouse wholemeal bread, filled with tuna mayo and sweetcorn, or 'farmhouse white' bread (must have a nice thick, well-fired crust), filled with some oak-smoked Wiltshire ham (on the bone) with home-made piccalilli, or Welsh Black Bomber extra-mature cheddar cheese and Branston pickle... Yum, yum!
