Exactly! I heard some woman on another forum saying she chose not to believe in God, because the laws Moses passed down were not feminist enough for her likings. It was about 6 thousand years ago? It seems many do not appreciate just how far we’ve come in the past 100 years. Another was slamming Religion because God didn’t speak out against slavery, it’s all to easy to judge people from the past. Ideals like Equality, Conservation, and Tolerance were foreign to humans, not that awful long ago. Instead of rejoicing how far we’ve come, let’s bitch about why they didn’t do it sooner? Doesn’t seem very productive.

Just to be trivial for a moment why do the voice over announcers for new films coming to cinemas seem to be incapable of say the date correctly, ie; " coming to a cinema near you June twenty nine " . I know what they're saying but it grates on me.

I'm joe.
But surely it's right to reject God/established religions if the laws they lay down are no longer relevant and merely reflect the power structures of past societies? The essential 'nut' is the Golden Rule: 'Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself'. It's common to most religions and non-religious systems of ethics:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Rule
The trouble with all religions is that they are man-made constructs, which overlay lots of 'ifs' and 'buts' on top of this basic idea; so you must treat everyone as you would wish to be treated yourself unless they are heathens, slaves. foreigners, women, heretics etc etc. Christianity held on to its basic tenets of love, tolerance, non-violence and forgiveness until it became a state religion instead of a minor sect, then it became persecutor rather than persecuted. Looking back over human history, religions have, on the whole, been very much part of the problem rather than part of the solution.
Or you could argue that if it wasn't for religion slavery would still be acceptable. Trying to reconcile religious beliefs with the idea that it was okay to own people and make them work for you for nothing was a big driver behind the abolitionist movement.
Morality is relative and culturally defined so it helps if there are rules laid down about what is and isn't acceptable, and that these are known about and respected by a majority of people. They might still do the wrong thing but at least they are aware that they are doing the wrong thing.
Wheras without the clearly defined objective morality that religion provides, anything goes. Secular attempts to control behaviour via moral one-upmanship are doomed to failure because no-one respects what is ultimately just another bloke's viewpoint.

agree up to a point, although its not religion at fault but mankind.religions have, on the whole, been very much part of the problem rather than part of the solution.
as for first part, rejecting god is fair enough if its your desire due to disagreeing with the basis of the script, but to say you dont believe in god because of the anti feminist attitudes is not logical. better to reject it surly

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
