Get one of the latest generation 3TB Sky Q boxes - they're great!

Not only do they work reliably and seamlessly, but the size of the memory is such that how much you can record and keep is unlikely ever to be a problem, especially with also being able to record up to five programmes at once!

I hadn't considered that. Could do with a new box anyway, mine is out of the Ark. Still has some of the programmes that Noah taped on it. Religious stuff, mainly.

Can't even record on my sky box, but why bother, the program's repeat so often it's hard to find anything new.

That is true, I'm never concerned about missing something I wanted to see as it is always on again, usually the next day. I tape everything so when I come to watch it I can fast-forward through the adverts.

    Re 'Taping' -

It may be an archaic term now but so what? I notice BBC presenters still refer to 'VT' when I'd guess there has not been a video tape in use there for a decade at least.

Sure, but that doesn't apply if you're following a series (drama or whatever) and miss a crucial episode, if you're out, or were otherwise occupied. If you don't have access to catch up TV (or record said programme), then it spoils the whole thing, and you could be waiting for donkey's before that particular series is repeated again.

Also, Sky give you the option now of saving and keeping downloaded content, indefinitely (for the life of the box), so when you've got access to 3TB worth of data storage (which is quite a lot), you can download loads of interesting stuff, latest or classic movies from Sky Cinema, etc, to save and keep to watch again whenever you feel like it - all at the touch of a button.

As such, Sky Q is now an integral part of our home entertainment centre/cinema system, and we wouldn't be without it. It's never the case now, when we have time for watching TV, that we can't find *something* good to watch, whether it's on live TV, on any of the 100s of different channels available, or saved content we've downloaded

And then of course, there's the Blu-ray player! It's actually too tempting now, especially in this bad weather, just to park yourself down and never move.....

Lol - you can describe things how you like. I just find some of the old terms folk use funny

I prefer the old terms to the new ones which pointlessly replace perfectly good descriptors:

'I ripped it to my hard drive'

You mean you copied it to your hard drive? Well just say that, then!

    Yeah, I get you there!

However, I don't see why 'taped' can't simply be replaced with 'recorded', which in the context we're discussing, is just a more accurate description today of what will have happened. It's also a word that's been around for as long as 'taped'...

Carrying on saying 'taped', whilst quaintly retro, could be argued as simply the behaviour of an intransigent dinosaur - a badge, however, I suspect you may be happy to wear with pride

I suppose 'record' is equally valid and less anachronistic but no-one I know ever said that. 'Tape me the new Tull album' or 'Don't forget to tape Match of The Day' was what people used to say.

I don't see any reason to change the habits of a lifetime just because the technology has moved on.
