In need of a new mobile phone, so I contacted my provider and told them what I wanted and that I could get it elsewhere for what I'm paying now, ooh no we can't do that! So I got my PAC code and went elsewhere and my new phone is due today. Just had a call from my current provider to see how they can keep my custom FFS!!

All the mobile companies seem to be trying to get their customers on monthly accounts and it's almost imposible to find a SIM card that isn't on a monthly tariff. I've had a Tesco PAYG SIM in my phone with no monthly fee for many years, I just top up maybe twice a year (I hardly use it). But they keep texting me with 'free upgrade' offers which of course are tied to monthly fees. I don't want that. As long as I use the phone once within every six months the account will stay active, so I'm sticking with that.

I would have liked to have got a SIM only deal but my current phone has become almost unusable

Talking of mobile phones. Does anybody else here have problems with touchscreens? They refuse to work properly for me.

There's an article about this here: https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/...eens/index.htm

Needless to say, I don't use a smartphone. I've had a couple but get the same problem each time.

first one i had a bit of a problem. think it was me tbh, as it worked with other folk. have no issues now especially with the i phone. quite like mine actually and i never thought that would have happened.
think some cheap screens still have issues

I thought with PAYG if you didn't 'spend' the top up within 30 days, you lost it. As in "use it or lose it".

That's the current arrangement for a monthly account with many providers. Mine's an old SIM card and does not have this.

I do to make long distance calls. All calls made after 7pm are free as long as they are no more than 1 hour in duration.

During the day I will use my mobile as my monthly contract comes with 800 minutes of free talk time (and a large number of texts, but I rarely send texts - my phone doesn't have a 'qwerty' keypad).
