People who come on my TV and talk about existential threats, existential anything in fact, it just sounds completely twattish and pretentious.
Cynical companies advertising bloody 'funeral plans' on the box all bleedin' day!! There's loads of these adverts.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
they are a waste of money to 99% of folk as well

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I was talking about landlines. The vast majority of these are provided by BT (or whichever incarnation of BT it is that is currently pretending it's not BT). BT sell access to the lines via wholesale packages. If you have a BT line, all the providers who offer you deals are just reselling one of these BT wholesale packages.
However, mobile is worth discussing. Does it really make sense to have multiple suppliers providing the same service. Why should it depend on which provider I use, as to whether I get a good signal in my home. Also competition tends to lead to less populated areas getting poor coverage.

Not so. The Cable TV companies (of which there were MANY back in the '90s, all now are regional parts of Virgin Media) have an entirely separate network to BT. I worked for BT for 12 years from 1980 to 1992, then moved to (what was LCL Cable in Leicester), where I installed and commissioned a brand new fibre optic transmission network while my colleagues commissioned a brand new telephone exchange (switch).
Up and down the country these networks are all joined together, and all join BT at numerous locations.
There is absolutely no shared infrastructure, no shared cabling etc from the exchange to the customer's house/business.
Stay Away From the Guard Rails!
Media professionals who can't spell. There have been a couple of instances of unexploded WW2 bombs being found lately and on each occasion these have been reported as apparently being 'diffused'. Why can't these people get it into their heads that the word is defused! Dozy bastards!!
