The same thing (or similar) yes, in terms of humour, but in a different format, and that can hugely influence the appeal of a show or not. I understand what you're saying, but totally disagree that it's got anything to do with him being less funny now because he's wealthier.

Peter Kay is a fat, working-class Northerner. He can't really re-invent himself, any more than Jimmy Carr can re-invent himself as anything other than a slim, rich Southerner, or Ricky Gervaise can be anything other than a short-arsed annoying get. Essentially they play themselves, unlike other comic actors who have a wider range, and can be believable as different 'types'. I guess Peter Sellers is the most obvious example for us older blokes.

Humour is of course entirely subjective; either it makes you smile or laugh, or it doesn't. I thought that, for the most part, Car Share was very funny, although the unscripted episode was shite, and the finale was just OK. It'll be interesting to see what Peter Kay does next. Was John Cleese ever funny after Fawlty Towers?

Sellers and Cleese are comic actors more than comedians.

Don't agree that Kay can't be anyone other then himself. He has played a Northern Irish female singer and a cockney wide boy. Brian Potter and Max (& Paddy) were also different characters from his stand up / Car Share persona.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

The speed at which the presenters talk on the Today programme. I appreciate they have a lot of news items to get through but listening on a little bedroom or kitchen radio, as I'm sure a lot of people do, I find I am missing not just the odd word but whole phrases sometimes. Then my wife asks me what they just said so I miss the next sentence too! Cut out a few items folks so that at least we get to hear a few complete ones properly.
