...and now i have found a good travel source too, this one:

The Hifiman HE-400i ticks my critical boxes concerning it's sound, but it is quite demanding regarding its source.
I have made my selection based on a few criteria, storage space for "offline use", compatibility, versatility when in reach of a decent WLAN, portability and most importantly sound quality.
The Pioneer XDP-100R fulfills most of my demands as it is an Android based device with support for 432Gb of total storage, a good DAC built in (the ESS Sabre 9018K2M), good battery life, a nice design and a very nice sound quality. Since it is an Android based thingy, you can install any app you like from the app store such as Tidal, Spotify and in my case Roon Control.
When at home this means i can use Roon to play music over WLAN so vacuuming the apartment can actually be a pleasure!
Or play tunes from Tidal of Spotify whichever i prefer at the moment.
And when im off in the mobile home in Europe during summer i have plenty of space on the two 200Gb microSDXC cards for local music, in uncompressed quality and quite a few DSD and high rez PCM tracks.
And after the latest firmware updates to the XDP-100R it has gpt some serious grunt to power even the quite demanding planar magnetic headphones such as the Hifiman and Audeze more exclusive series. It is not quite as powerful as the Schiit Jotun of course but provides plenty of musical satisfaction when on the road or hotels and such.

After having a couple of Ino Audio i32s speakers in the main rig for about a week i decided to switch back to my Yammies. Ahhhh...
    Feels like coming home!

These are the Ino Audio i32s, quite well known here in Sweden and highly appreciated by a select set of audiophiles. A little like your "flat earth" crowd actually.

Oh, they are designed and sold by the same guy who is responsible for Guru speakers, Ingvar Öhman.

And a current image of the rulers of this throne:

I will have difficulties in finding worthy successors to these...

Well, i've finally joined the "Mojitos"

I had one at home for a couple of days earlier but didnt quite get it. Good, yes, but outstanding, naahhh..
I reconsidered and nagged the seller for a second trial, and this time around the DAC had been properly run in. I really like what i hear and it actually drives my planar headphones with both decent power and loads of finesse.
So, on the road using the Pioneer XDP-100R as a transport with the Mojo as DAC/HP amp i get really, really nice sound!

    Always something happening here!
Recent addition to the Pi stable:

Running DietPi and Roon Bridge atm it is sounding very nice indeed! I did actually manage to implement the necessary libraries and scripts to make the power button work as it should!

I also bought an old Bluesound Vault very cheaply as it had issues ripping and was generally unreliable. I have successfully changed the harddrive to a 2Tb unit (the old 1Tb unit turned out to be bad) and also aquired and changed the faulty dvd-rom. So now it is working like a charm and provides an alternate music source suitable for the better half who only wants some radio channels and a Spotify Connect bridge. To me its an excellent all-in-one playback solution, Roon Ready endpoint and backup station for my most valued music.

It is actually sounding better than i remember my previous Bluesound units.
Have had a good long think about what might be the reason for this.... One possibility is of course that my audio memory is failing, but i'd like to think that these are the reasons:
    1. No Bluetooth or WLAN adapters on the motherboard or nearby!
    2. No switching power supply in the unit itself, it is external.
    3. Software optimisations and progress.

While pondering reason No2 above i remembered that i have a low noise linear power supply suitable for this unit. So that is the one powering the Vault for now! It improved the unit further and it is now very nice indeed!

Moved house, which means new listening space:

The sofa furthest away is on its way out, which will allow me to reposition the speakers which needs a bit more wall reinforcement.
