Default Foundation / base for a system ?

    Hello

During my short time as a forum member I have read with interest lots of posts re
    Plinths
    Stands
    Spikes
    Gel pads
    ceramic feet
    to name a few

In 2006 I had to empty the ground floor of my house and replace all the floors and joists due to rot

not a pleasant job but someone has to do it and it , this is a photo of the hallway to give you an idea of the chaos

I replaced the joists with treated 4" x 2" and 18mm floor boards

Is this good enough to call a foundation ? Well it now has to be because I am not pulling it all up again

Next , for my speakers I have a pair of Atacama stands At the moment not filled with anything , and my speaker are just sitting flat face to flat face , No pads , spikes , feet

How would you proceed from here

Also some advice , my speakers are rear ported , is there a recommended distance the speakers should be from the wall ?

And lastly is there a recommended triangle formula for

distance between speakers for a set distance for the listening seating position , If you see what I mean ?

    Cheers all

I replaced my spikes entirely with RDC spikes, cups and foam inserts, the difference it made was huge, all of a sudden my speakers had bass and the treble end of things was much more detailed and delicate, one of the best upgrapdes I ever made.

See my other thread for Atacama based stand filling experiments; I'll update as asoon as I've tried it out. The concensus is sands (kiln dried, fine as you can get it) a great place to start

    Hi Martin

When you say you replaced your spiks , were these the ones on the base of the stands / carpet or the one's at the top of the stands between the stand and the speaker , are they these http://www.audiooasis.co.uk/en/prodi...LE-ACC-IS-RDC1

if not do you have a link to the ones you have used please ?

    Thanks

Yeah, I replaced the spikes at the bottom of the stands with:

    RDC 1 cones (6mm thread)

    RDC cone cups

    RDC combi bases

Which provided a tremendous upgrade to the way my speakers sound. I'm sure that even if you just used the new spikes it would make a big difference.

Also, I recently removed the gel pads that came with my stands (the Atacam ones) and this was a not insignificant jump in detail retreival for my speakers. Alt hough I can't universally vouch for this bit as it depends on your gear but you should definitely try both with and without (I had them on for about 10 months before trying )

I was worried about the lack of grip for my speakers and so used some of my mates Plastidip spray (in black). A few coats of this means my speakers aren't stuck down but they ain't going anywhere if knocked either, really is great and useful stuff!

    Hope this helps.
