I wonder if Torlyte is this stuff:

    TorHex

So unimaginative sometimes is the hifi industry that when turning someone else's product into their own and choosing their new name for it, you wonder if they purposely name things as an in-joke, taking the piss. Probably is this that Russ Andrews use..

SQ is correct that LACK tables are no longer made the same way. When I built the original, they had solid chipboard legs so adding the spikes was easy. I believe it is now more challenging.

Also when I built mine they were veneered with real wood. Now they are all vinyl which is a shame.

Saw this ages ago and thought about doing it. By the time I got my sorry arse into gear they changed the makeup of the legs....

    I use a Lack cabinet.
As soon as anything is sold as "for hi fi" the price goes through the roof.

I always look in other departments before i go to the hi fi part of ebay for acessories when possible.

I use an IKEA “Lack” couch table. Make sure not to place too heavy equipment on the middle shelf (if you have one), because this board is not very viable and bends easily:

The top shelf is stable. My 27-inch iMac rests well and firmly on it.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
