Came across a half speed mastered copy of Boston's first album - it sounds rather nice, with finer fadeout detail and greater low end authority than the standard pressings.
The cover is a bit tatty, but for £3 I can't really complain.
This is not a picture of the copy I now have, but it is the same version release.
I decided to do a quick comparison with my standard run copy, and from a tonality perspective my original copy is streets ahead of the Mastersound copy (there's a lot more high end response and life), so I did a bit of digging around and found this http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/thread...-lps-crap.588/
Seems that CBS used the original production mastering notes, and didn't make appropriate EQ adjustments for the half speed cutting, which is a shame because the detailing is much better
Nice to find the Mastersound pressing nonetheless, and for the little I paid for it I think I've gained a little bit more knowledge - I'll pass on one next time I see it

Chris
Common sense isn't anymore!
Picked this up at the weekend... An absolute favorite of mine and one I've been yearning for on vinyl for yonks.
KVARTETTEN SOM SPRANGDES - KATTIVALS / ON GUMP
Heavy organ psych, mean and meaty. Just great full on grooves. I found myself simply stunned with the sleeve too, a wonderful image. No fooking photoshop just a beautiful LP throughout.

How come it took you so long?
Dunno really... I always wanted an original but they were always too expensive but I got lucky with this one.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
