I quite like the idea of a Croft pre-amp into a Behringer. Sounds like it could work very well indeed. With a bit more money I would also add a Caiman DAC into the mix.

Hmmm, I might need a second system in the near future...

Mind you, for a new system, you might want a record deck too. So, I'd go for a Lenco GL75 before getting a DAC.

800 euros is approx £730 ... I would buy vintage gear off ebay and recently set up the following system

    Pioneer SA-9800 amp ... expect to pay £350 (I paid £275)

Marantz CD63 MKII K1 signature cd player ... expect to pay £130 (I paid £130-mint and boxed)

B&W DM2a speakers (the 1st version 3-way handbuilt transmissions) ... expect to pay £150 (I paid £50 ... good condition-cabinets needed polishing and had them french polished for free from a friend)

Silver High Breed interconnect ... £20 (new off ebay)

Silver High Breed Coherence speaker cable ... £25 (new off ebay)

brings the total to £675 (which leaves £55 extra if prices are slightly higher)

I am delighted with my system and auditoned a brand new system that costs £3600 and my old system totally blew it away)
