Default best home sound for 800 euros?

    Hello,

I have just received a voucher for a hi-fi system (800 euros). What would you buy? (Large living room, all kinds of music, detailed warm sound...).

    Thank you so much.

    Hi David and welcome!

A voucher eh? Interesting, where are you able to redeem it?

For 800 euros you may be best going for used components as you'll obtain much better quality per euro. What source components do you need?

    Ben Duncan mains conditioner
    2022 MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro 10/16/16/16
    Samsung QE75Q90T 75" QLED TV
XMOS DSD Async USB to Coax converter
RME Audio ADI-2 FS (AK4493) DAC
    Chord Clearway XLR interconnects
    Audioquest Crimson USB interconnect
    QED Quartz Reference optical interconnect
    Edifier S3000 Pro active speakers
    Atacama SE24 stands

    Easy:

First you choose a pair of speakers that you like, for about £450-500, then you add
    Source: Sony SCD-XE597 (£150)
    Amplifier : Nuforce Icon (£200)

    (all new)

    Or,
Pioneer PD S703 (one on Ebay currently for £75 - which is a bit pricey).
Behringer power amp (referred to in another thread recently, at £170ish new)
    A Croft Micro Basic 25 (£350 new)
And some speakers with the remaining money.

Or you could probably pick up a Quad 33, 303 set up for the same amount, or less, as the Behringer and Croft.

I'll try and find the recent thread where it was mentioned and praised.

Staying with the Behringer A500 theme:

    Pioneer DV-575-A Multidisc player (Ebay, 2nd hand) - £30
    Beresford Caiman DAC/Pre-Amp - £230
    Behringer A500 Power Amp - £170
    Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 Speakers - £200
Ebay Speaker Stands to suit - £50
    Mark Grant Cables - £50

    Total cost: £730

No idea if it would work together, but I really like the idea of feeding a power amp direct from the Caiman, and if you're using a DAC the source just needs to be a decent transport.
