You need a laserbeam strength meter and knowledge on how to set up the laser for the sharpest eye pattern.
I sold a brand new CDM4 laser assembly on ebay recently. Bidding was fierce, final bid was astronomical, and it was shipped to Taiwan. The winner was over the moon to have won it.

There are at least 4 models of CDM4 laser I know of, or should I say the mechanism...

It's the metal mech that goes for silly money, CD players with the plastic mech CDM4/19 can be picked up cheap still

I know. You are talking to a former authorized Philips CDP repair engineer here .

Well that's good I have a bit of a big suspicion that the laser from the CDM4/19 can be retrofitted to the metal mechanism...

Care to comment Stan? I'd value your input

The 'pin' outputs on the ribbon cable that comes from the laser pick-up itself were not uniform in functionality. I would have to see if I can lay my hand on any of the CDM manuals.

Well it appears that horse feathers & hens teeth are not quite as rare as I thought Just picked up a CDM4/36 metal mechanism

Looks like I'll be able to compare the CDM4/19 laser without having to rip my Krell to bits

    Handy
