    Default Pioneer A400

I have for sale one of my Pioneer A400 amps (the unfettled one), i bought 2 with the idea that if I needed any bits I could cannibalise 1 to fix the other, as it turned out these amps are very solid, so it's sat gathering dust for about a year now, it's in very good condition both cosmetically and sonically, and is a great amp if you like doing a bit of fettling, I paid £80 for it plus p&p so that's what I'd want for it.

A month ago I'd have had this, but I can't justify it now I'm afraid.

    Good luck with sale mike.

Just use it with a decent source and cables and it'll be fine. Most of the negatives on this amp are because it was treated like the low-budget product it was and mis-matched accordingly. It was rather too good for it's own good I remember, having heard the heaven and hell it was capable of

I will be using the amp in place of a Rotel RA06

    It will be used with:

    Sony XB930E cd player
    Beresford 7520 DAC
    B&W 602 S3 speakers
    Mark Grant interconnect/coax

The Rotel is hardly a high end amp, but sounds pretty good matched with the B&W's

    Will post back the results

if you're felling like getting more out of it, may i suggest a re-cap, starting with the 2 smoothing caps, and then upgrade the rectifier with Schottky diodes. you will see a world of difference, that was the 1st upgrade i did to my other A400, it was money well spent. Daves right as well, good cables, brings out the best in this amp, i use the Pure AV cables and get very pleasing results. Anyway your new amp is boxed up and ready to go Gareth, hope you enjoy it.

Thanks, wouldn't mind giving it a little upgrade, may need to learn how to solder first though!

    Cheers
