Has anyone found a reliable source for the Superlux HD 661s?

I may be wrong but I do not think they are generally available (released) in the UK yet. I understand that the ones currently being discussed are a batch of 12 provided to members of a headphone centred forum for pre-release testing.

    My System:
Power: Belkin PF40, Custom.hifi.cables Hydra and DC PSUs.
Sources: Self built HTPC with Xonar ST sound card, NAD T585 multi disc player, Sony BDP-S350, Squeezebox Touch, Techncs SL1210 (mod'd) + Nagaoka MP30, Thomson Sky HD box.
    Amps etc.: 2 x Mini-T amps, MF-X10D Valve buffer clone, StanDAC 7520/Caiman (mod'd).
Speakers: Mission 774s with added super tweeters
Cables: best I can afford and likely to change except Homar's RF attenuated co-ax's and Mark Grant USB and HDMI cables. I also like silver i/cs and speaker cable.

Looks as though it may be a choice between the Superlux 668 (cheap?), 668B (not so cheap) and the Sennheiser HD202s which I've already heard, and which are quite widely available (e.g. from Amazon) for under £25.

If the 661s are almost here I might wait, but price and availability are factors.

How many headsets does one need, anyway? I could probably justify one or two more after this - maybe one considerably up market model perhaps with associated headphone amp.

One use I sometimes put these to is to listen in bed, and to fall asleep. Chunky ones not so good for that. Maybe in ear models and hope I don't strangle myself on the wires overnight.

Going up slightly in price are the Sennheiser HD 205-IIs, which are around £30 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-H...511466&sr=8-28

Are these better than the HD202s? A major complaint seems to be that they squash your head in!

Some Sennheiser headphones do clamp with quite a pressure, it can be worse if you wear specs.

25 years on my "cooking" cans are still 80's local radio station faves Sennheiser HD410s. They've survived house moves, holidays, parties and family. The foam disintegrated a decade ago but replacement was easy to come by. Although obviously well short of my HD600s I may nonetheless ask to be buried wearing them.

    Default faulty?

I bought a "spare" pair of Sennheiser 102s a few weeks ago from Amazon.
At first they sounded good, but now I'm detecting some scratchy noises in the background.

I've been trying to eliminate the reasons for these - possibly compressed audio artefacts etc., and I wondered if listening from my iMac headphone output could be a source.

However, I'm coming round to the conclusion that the phones may be faulty, and have a small but irritating fault - perhaps a loose wire somewhere inside.

When I plug in my Beyerdynamic DTX900s the background noise levels drop to near zero on the same music.

Has anyone else noted problems with low level background noises using headphones? If I can confirm the problem, then I think I'll have to send the 102s back, but if I do that should I just go for a refund, or try another pair?

Another vote for the Superlux 668B's from me, easily the best headphones I've ever owned and I have owned some good phones. One recommendation though, fit them with AKG pads when you can as the standard leatherette pads that come with the 668's can get a little sweaty over long listening sessions

The build quality of these phones is excellent and they come with high quality removable cables and adapter...
