Enjoyable contemporary Spanish. Not as astringent as some of his music.

A very fine recommendation by new AOSer Alanbeeb.
It's like hearing this familiar work afresh.
Fantastic sq, too.

Great disc that - I'm really into Currentzis, love him or hate him ! You should try his Shostakovich 14, to say nothing of his Rite of Spring with this band...

Welcome to participation in the forum, Tony!
I'd not come across Currentzis before somehow.
Loved the Tchaik 6 -- I then went of to his Shostakovich piano concertos with Melnikov - stunning, and the slow mvt of the 2nd PC ---- whooosh, words fail me it's so beautifully played!
I see he's done a lot of opera, which isn't really my bag, but Mozart's Requiem, Shosty 14 and Rite. Yup, looking forward to trying those!

So, naturally, I went straight on to Tchaikovsky's violin concerto.
And got immediately sidetracked by the astonishing violin playing of Patricia Kopatchinskaja.
My gosh, another wonderful musician I'd not come across before!
She's made lots on interesting looking recordings.

Hi Tony
And then, some avant garde-y stuff played by Patricia K.

Yep she’s quite something, and I’d forgotten that Tchaikovsky concerto which I actually bought in the end. Maybe it’s a bit marmite with the pulling around of the phrases, but it makes others now seem rather dull....
