Another tip from a Fanfare review. As pointed out in that review, an amazing conflation of influences, from Respighi, Elgar, Glazunov to Prokofiev, until you realise that this guy's music preceded them all!

Loved this - Vask's cello concerto

Quite a few early / middle sonatas from this set, it's really rather good

This violin concerto is magical, in a late 20C kind of way

    Symphonies 2 & 4 from this set.
I come back to these symphonies every now and then and they continue to slowly grow on me. Definitely a long term project!

I love a bit of sax.

I really enjoyed this - it's not the mild pootling of most 'classical' sax concertos.

    Minimalist string quartets

Nothing much happens, really. But somehow that doesn't seem to matter. Quite an absorbing listen.

    Then some more excitable minimalism

Great fun, but I wish this performance was 25% slower. Sadly, there are no recorded alternatives.
One of the very few operas I like. But it is hardly a conventional opera!

I've been a long-time admirer of de Meij's Lord of the Rings orchestral suite.
It's a major work, well crafted and evocative.

    The 3rd from this set

Martinu's is a very distinctive sound world - I like it although I don't like Marmite.

Ah, the wistfully sad gentle melancholy of Alla Pavlova's 2nd symphony
