Thanks, Gary - that's on my playlist now. I love that music but haven't heard Hillier's recording.

A great harpsichord recording by my fave performer, Pieter-Jan Belder

Excellent recital concert for solo viola da gamba!

    Tragically, not on Spotify
    But try this https://open.spotify.com/album/2zsc2dRdBBDafsDWGuTery
Just amazingly, wonderfully, like Schubert piano sonatas at times.

And listening now to the dark, forboding atmosphere of Gloria Coates 4th symphony .... ominous!! ....

    Yum.

Ah, this recording of Ashton piano works is nice.
Start with the 4th sonata if you know your Schubert.

Remarkably like Paganini concertos! Great fun.

2nd symphony from this set ...

Quite a distinctive performance that had me air-conducting like crazy at times.

    and then ...

A similar kind of approach - distinctively abruptly molded phrasing, but somehow maintains continuity of line, and really lets the big moments explode.

    RIP Maestro Harnoncourt.

Looks better in real life, but I guess it's not the prettiest cover the Nutcracker has ever had. Gorgeous gatefold sleeve though with a track by track synopsis on a booklet in the middle.

I can't say how endlessly enjoyable and fascinating I find Rhapsody in Blue (or Gershwin generally) -- I like this one for the Jazz-scaled orchestration and the almost frenetic energy. Bernstein (also on vinyl) also brilliant but I think the recording is too spacious - whereas his American in Paris on side two is just about perfect.

The Haydn Andante con Variazoni (magnificent!) and Schubert D.784 piano sonata from this ...

I'm appreciating Brendel more and more these days.

And there is something about Barenboim's Bruckner that just hits the spot for me.
The 9th from this set is wonderful, imo. Great sq, too.
I started out listening to Rattle's recent effort, but, meh .... tried the Barenboim and .... yeah! :^
