A lovely album. The opening quintet is quite magical.
The concluding sextet is just too busy-busy for me, but then most sextets strike me that way.
And then the 8th from this set ..

What have they done?
Gone is the rather scrawny, lightweight 1970's RCA sound. Delivered is scrumptiously dynamic and clear and full-toned magnificence!

I'm not sure I like this music, but I enjoy listening to it - there's a fascination, somehow.

Quartet #4 from this set ...
Pah. I've been wasting my time with this set for the last few months. Well reviewed but emotionally vacuous for me. I don't know why I stuck with it.
Finally decided to give up on them and move on ...

Frohlich. Who the hell is Friedrich Theodor Frohlich?
I just happened to stumble across his string quartets in a Spotify search for something else ...

Very nice indeed!
Which naturally led me on to ....

An amazingly diverse album - orchestral overture to top & tail the album. Mass with choir and vocal soloists. A couple of short pieces for violin and piano. All of it good!
Then some Vanhal. Much better known than Frohlich, but I've not really heard much by him before. It's excellent!
