Visiting friend gone, back to some serious listening ...

    -- Jando's playing is magical.

I fancied listening to Bruckner's 3rd symphony so did a Tidal search. Not sure why I chose this one as it is obscure in the extreme (maybe that was the reason!).

Superb. What a surprise. And the sound quality is equally good. The 6th is excellent as well. A great find, I shall be exploring Venzago's Bruckner cycle.

-- good stuff. I do like to give Bloch's music an occasional outing.

No, not the whole lot - just 1-5. On TIDAL the set runs for an amazing 36 hours!
Lovely lively performances in great sound.

    - surprisingly wonderful music, tuneful and well crafted, that grows on me more each time I hear it.

    And once again ....

I really like this. Although Venzago's Bruckner gets thrashed in reviews!
OK - he does do little tempo tweakeroos which seem to irritate some folk. And he is light and vigorous, which goes against the heavy portentous massiveness of the Bruckner tradition. But I find it a bracing alternative to Karajan and Jochum etc. I'm happy to have both approaches available.

Some quite challenging but approachable modern classical music ...

... as well as being a true audiophile tour de force in terms of sound quality.

Ah, the Martinu symphonies. Bloody good!

Ah, Bruno Walter - a wonderful conductor. His stereo Bruckner 9th with the Columbia SO is one of the best ever recorded, imo.

    Yesterday ....

    All good stuff!

Sometimes I think this is just about the finest thing Domingo has done on record. Remarkable, although I wouldn't give up the Kollo/Solti one. (I probably should have a recording of the Dresden version just to experience the original.)

Lossless download from Passionato (when they were still on the go).

Very nice. I love Deccas of that vintage - on vinyl or digital.

-- beautiful playing. Too beautiful. Lacks any sense of drama or incisiveness. Good for chilling out to.

    - excellent version of one of my fave violin concertos, the Khachaturian.

-- an excellent sampler of Glass's extraordinary music. Great for Glass newbies and old hands alike.

And listened to Haydn's greatest keyboard work (the Andante Con Variazione) from this set.

    Superb.
