Thanks Tony, I enjoyed that. Great sq, too.
But I agree, no recording I have heard equals the sheer malicious ferocity of Previn's recording.
Sadly, it doesn't seem to be on Spotify.

But ... Gardner on Chandos is also very good. (As is Paul Daniel on Naxos).

Jerry, the Previn Walton 1 is there, but for some reason doesn't show as an album, just comes up with the tracks in an odd order (but all there - most strange...)

I have the Gardner as well, very good it is. Just really enjoying this at the moment

Not used to this, but here goes - I've created a playlist and put the tracks in correct order, so hopefully....

Walton 1st symphony again -- Ashkenazy is very good, too, with a powerful and full-bodied recording. great stuff!

Boult also is excellent - but it's an old stereo recording and there is noticeable tape hiss when played at the volume level it deserves.
He seems to dig out and articulate more musical detail and dynamic precision than most anyone else.

Hoffer's only music on Spotify - I came across it on a search for english horn concertos - good stuff, powerful and very listenable.

I've always loved English horn so I spun this Hoffer disc up Jerry. Glad I did - wonderful scenic landscape. Thanks! I've faved it!

Seems that Hoffer mainly does compositions for films and teevee. He should do more concertos and other standard works. Hopefully he is still composing as he is now getting on (b 1934).

    Thanks for the feedback, Edward.
Yes, I think all 3 concertos are surprisingly good!
