Maybe they were £80 but was it not around £20 postage on top?

Let me know. I might start running stacked Xiangs at these prices, just to see how they vary between models...

No been very busy. Good session lined up for tomorrow night though.

Dropped Lampizator off today for upgrades. That's going to be really interesting when it comes back.

So Xiang exclusively for a while.

Interestingly although the ad for mine said it only went up to 96KHz, the Chinese manual that came with it says it is actually the 192KHz version seen on some of the other ebay ads.

    Here we go Brian.

First to note is that the board revision of my DAC is NOT the same as Alan/Jerry's DAC-01A. I know this by looking at the picture in Alan's mod thread. Alan's mods aside, the layout is definitely different.

The board rev on mine is under the valve, I think it said 2016-09 on it from memory after swapping in the Western Electric valve last night.

The WE valve (pictured earlier in the thread) is cleaner sounding than the stock 6N3. The most prevailing thoughts I had using it for about 4-5 hours last night is here is a valve that knows where everything is. Its placement of stereo images is fabulous, with excellent layering in the z-plane and very clear separation of individual instruments. It is a precise sounding valve if ever there was one. It is unquestionably impressive. I noted the output of the DAC using this valve appeared to be lower than the stock item. But not by a massive amount.

By comparison the stock 6N3 is perceptibly more distorted and fleshed out, but that distortion is quite euphonic in nature. But it is still damned enjoyable. It is quite different to the WE i.e. the sonic signature as whole is notably "not the same".

I'll move onto the Sylvania Gold Brand in due course.

Be careful rolling the valve the base is fragile at best.

Thanks Justin , looks like I'm going to have a bit of fun with this DAC . I don't have any valves of this type so I'm hoping to narrow down my options before I start messing around with valves . This is much appreciated
